I’ve deleted it.
Why? Well there isn’t a solid reason on why, but I found that it was taking up so much of my time and consumed me for no reason. Sure Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace take up as much time as any of the above, but there seems to be something else about SnapChat that makes things different. Don’t ask me what because I have yet to figure it out. I’m happy with my decision so far. It’s only been two days but I’ve already noticed an increase in my productivity.
It might be the fact of having “best friends” and “streaks.” I was so hung up on these things that it kinda took over and I was always looking at what people were doing when in reality it didn’t really matter. Yeah sure I cared about what people were doing, but what does that have to do with me? Things seemed to turn a little to materialistic on snapchat for me (ironic because it’s an app). You might think I’m stupid but everyone has their own opinion. I already feel free after deleting it, and I challenge you to do the same. It doesn’t even have to be Snapchat, let it be Facebook, or Instagram, or Twitter. (MySpace before was to make you laugh, but if you do have Myspace on you phone, good for you, delete it **Sorry Tom). We’ve become so engulfed by what social media offers us on the insight of other people’s lives that we don’t care enough about our own.
Another thing is that people are so worried about telling other people what they’re doing because they want to brag or whatever. Too many times have I noticed that I’ve been snapchatting something and not enjoying the moment. I’m not saying that the only way for someone to enjoy something is to stay off their phone, but whenever I personally notice something wrong with it, there needs to be a change.
For all I know, I’m the only one that’s like this, and I’m overreacting. For those that don’t have a problem with social media, that’s good! To be able to have some self control is a good thing. I just haven’t mastered it yet.
Finals are this week, and I need all the help I can get. With that being said, to all of you reading this:
YOU CAN DO IT. You can put in the work required. Don’t give up. You got admitted int0 (Insert School Name) for a reason. They knew that you could succeed there. Don’t doubt yourself.
As one of the most inspirational people in my life would say:
“Do or do not, there is no try.”
It’s hard to follow that at all times, but I knew if he was still here, then he would be on my ass about a lot of stuff. Miss you big man, and can’t wait to be in your choir.
Who knows, I might download it again in the future, but not anytime soon. Best of luck on all your finals, and Happy Holidays. I’m sure I’ll be writing soon.
